The 36th WSOP World Series, to be held where else than Las Vegas, has set a new
record of number of player registrations. The fast growing popularity of poker,
much due to online poker rooms, brought about some amazing statistics: While last
year's event has drawn 14,054 registrations, this year 14,439 players have
already registered and the organizers predict that the total number of
registrations will reach 23,000 poker enthusiasts from 45 different nations
around the world.
The Series this year will spread over 23 events - the total prize money through
the first 21 events already stands at nearly $25.5 million. The total
prize money for this year's events is believed to reach $100 million
- another record-breaking number after last year's $45 million.
Harrah's Entertainment, who has purchased the World Series of Poker last year,
will host the first 21 events at Harrah's Rio casino. The last two days of the
event will take place at Binion's in downtown Las Vegas, which has been hosting
the World Series of Poker for the last 35 years.
The events will be televised and croadcasted on ESPN starting from July 19.
