The Spanish Football Federation has forwarded to FIFA a request from the Spanish
team to replace the defender Asier del Horno at Mondial 2006 due to injury. Del
Horno, who plays as fullback for Chelsea suffered damage around his Achilles tendon
last week and requires a ten day rest and ten more days to recover his normal
strength.
Depending on FIFA's permission, as replacements for Del Horno at Spain's opening
game against Ukraine on June 14 Spain considers Mariano Pernia from Getafe or
Joan Capdevila who plays for Deportivo Coruna.
