Philipp Lahm, left-back defender of the German team, will cease training for two
weeks, but assumed to be fit by 9 June for FIFA World Cup 2006, according to his
team. Lahm has suffered an elbow injury last Tuesday in a practice match against
an amateur club at home. Lahm fell over and the tendons in his left are were torn.
He had to undergo surgery and miss the team's five-day training camp in Sardinia.
However, the German team has announced that Lahm will be able to rejoin them for
preparations in Geneva that will take place from 21 May to 30 May.
In addition to Lahm, both midfielder Sebastian and Kehl centre-back Christoph
Metzelder are dealing with injuries but they are expected to be full fit for
the Geneva camp and the Mondial 2006 back in Germany. The team will launch FIFA
World Cup 2006 with a match against Costa Rica on 9 June. In the meantime they
face friendly games against Luxembourg on 27 May, Japan on 30 May and Colombia
on 2 June.
