Online poker room Ultimate Bet is introducing a new poker tournament modeled according to college basketball series. The Heads-Up Smackdown is a 64-player one-on-one poker tournament. Ultimate Bet has also announced that the new heads-up format will be further expanded in the future into a full time schedule.

The winner of the Heads-Up Smackdown will get a prize of $11,200 and a championship ring. In addition the winner earns an entry to the Heads-up Bracket of Champions at the end of the year where the winner would get to play WSOP champion Phil Hellmuth for a $30,000 prize.

The new tournament will begin on Saturday, August 4th, 2007 and will be running for five weeks. Players can buy-in directly for $500+30, or win their way up through the daily satellites, that will be running online from Monday, July 16th.
