A glossary of Blackjack terms and game options.
Blackjack- A situation in which a sum of a two-card
hand totals to 21. Combined of an ace and a face card, also called Natural.
21-The hand that equals 21 or is closest but not larger then
21wins the round.
Hand- The cards you are currently holding.
Soft hand - A hand in which the ace is counted as 11.
Hard hand - A hand in which the ace is counted as 1, or a hand
which does not include any aces.
Face Cards- Jacks, Queens and Kings, counted as 10. When you
get an ace and a face card you got blackjack.
Game Options
Deal- Receiving cards from the dealer in the beginning of a round.
Hit- Asking to receive another card.
Double- After receiving two cards, you can double your initial
bet, but you can receive only one more card.
Split - When receiving a pair of equal-valued cards, you can
split them and place a new bet on the separated card, equal to the original
bet.
Push- A tie between you and the dealer.
Insurance- When the dealer is holding an ace, you can place
a side bet equal to half of your original bet, to insure yourself against dealer's
blackjack. In case the dealer's second card is a 10 bet is paid 2 to 1. If the
dealer doesn't have a 10, you loose the sum of the insurance.
Even Money- When you recieve a natural blackjack (ace plus
a face card), and the dealer has an ace, you cash out your bet immediately at
a 1 to 1.
